Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
DESCRIPTION: This is a temporary position for approximately 1-2 years. The Behavioral Medicine Laboratories/Stress and Resilience Research Labs (Dr. Mustafa al'Absi, Director) are looking for professionals with a background in nursing or with training and experience in placement of peripheral IV catheters and with phlebotomy (venipuncture) to join the team as Research Professionals. These individuals will collaborate with fellow research professionals and student researchers to collect and manage human biosamples (blood, saliva, urine) in clinical research studies related to stress and addiction (tobacco, marijuana). These individuals will also work with the team to coordinate and execute subject recruitment, data collection, data entry, and other tasks that support the research studies. We have one opening located on the Twin Cities campus and one opening located in Duluth.
DUTIES: Duties will include placing peripheral IV catheters and phlebotomy (venipuncture), processing samples (urine, saliva, blood), data entry/management, recruiting subjects and conducting telephone screenings for eligibility, running subjects through study protocols, and general study organization. The Research Professionals will also collaborate with coworkers for scheduling, training, and instructing the work of other employees, such as student workers. The ideal applicants will be open to the possibility of expanding responsibilities to facilitate every step of the research process. ***The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
INITIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Peripheral IV catheter placement, phlebotomy (venipuncture), and processing/managing biosamples – 25% - Preparation, data maintenance and entry - 10% - Recruitment and screening - 15% - Protocol Implementation and Data Collection - 50%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years - Ability to apply knowledge and skill to a recurring tasks with emphasis on precision and timeliness
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Trained with experience in peripheral IV catheter placement is preferred; experienced with phlebotomy (venipuncture). - Demonstrated excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills. - Experience with human subjects research. - Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. - Experience with Google Drive and Google Calendar.
