The Institutional Research Analyst provides technical assistance, programming, analytical, and reporting services of university data to support strategic planning and data-informed decision making. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of data to state and federal agencies as well as internal units and external organizations.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Produce statistical and analytical reports, dashboards, and presentations related to enrollment, retention, graduation, and student success. This involves expertly scripting regular processes using Python, SQL, and R to extract data from PeopleSoft system and/or IR operation data system (ODS). Contribute to OIR's meta database development and analytics efforts including objects associated with the institution's data warehouse. Work with business intelligence tools, specifically Tableau, to create and publish reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
Prepare state, federal and other agency reports and data requests, according to documented requirements (e.g. Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, HEI reporting, consortia (such as CUPA, AAUP, SARA) and university ranking/profile organizations (such as US News and World Report) and the Common Data Set). Ensure key metrics regarding the institution are compiled and published (e.g. factbook). Complete certain ad hoc data requests from internal and external requestors.
Monitor data quality and the overall integrity of data from disparate sources, taking appropriate steps to correct discrepancies when noted. Develop audit queries to improve data integrity. Specify, test and document processes, fixes and projects according to department processes and procedures. Work with IT and department staff to create and execute test plans on PS upgrades and fixes.
Design predictive data modeling to forecast enrollment, retention, graduation, and finances. Provide end user training and support on reporting tools. Troubleshoot report issues raised by the end user or modify reports base on new requirements or changing system or data environments. Develop reports and dashboards to enable self-service access to key indicators required to monitor progress against University’s goals on key performance indicators including student recruitment, student enrollment, student success, and general University trends.
Serve on committees. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Strong Oracle and SQL query and PL/SQL skills
Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools (e.g., SAS, TOAD, Crystal Reports, Python, R, Tableau), and some familiarity with PeopleSoft.
In-depth knowledge of and proficiency in using Microsoft Office Access and Excel;
An appreciation of the value of organizational data and its conversion to information for decision support;
Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as, interpersonal skills.

Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Social Sciences or a related field. Successful candidate must have Bachelor’s degree conferred at the time of application.
The following experience is required:
1-2 years of experience developing electronic institutional reports, in a higher education setting and in an institutional research operation preferably
2 years of enterprise resource planning relational database and technical computer writing experience.
