This position will plan, design and evaluate research methods and quality controls; report design alternatives to investigators. Write research progress or final reports, for current research projects is required. Assist in writing/formatting manuscripts for publication and abstracts for submission to conferences.
Work with faculty to write new grant proposals, including to federal agencies, and foundations. This can include preliminary literature searches and research of possible funding opportunities, developing research proposals for submission to funding agencies. This includes designing research models to be used to conduct the research, and developing the methods for the analysis of the research data. This position will be responsible for writing all components of the research proposal.
Data Collection/Analysis/Interpretation: Plan, organize, collect, record, and present data information within defined research parameters. Develop methods to include procedures, implementation, and evaluation standards of the research data. Enter data electronically and/or manually for the study to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the data collection. Data must be entered in a timely manner so as to comply with study procedures and protocol. Provide statistical analysis of the data to interpret the data and communicate trends and probable outcomes. Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative data is preferred. Provide basic quantitative statistical analysis including: generating summary statistics (t-test, chi-squared, etc.), creating/populating summary tables and figures, and implementing basic regression techniques (logistic, linear). Provide basic qualitative data analysis utilizing a qualitative data software program, such as: Atlas.ti, NVivo, etc.
Prepare IRB application/consent forms for initial submission. Ensure consent forms meet all HIPAA and regulatory requirements; ensure annual IRB approval; ensure submission to IRB of ongoing protocol amendments and adverse events/safety issues. Respond to IRB concerns on behalf of PI. Ensure all regulatory requirements are completed/submitted per FDA regulations. Assist in preparation of new data use agreements, renewals, and data purchasing requests for submission to University of North Carolina Office of Sponsored Research, NC TraCS, or the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
Communication, Teamwork and Compliance: Use effective verbal and written communication to accomplish tasks. Contribute to the overall mission of the work unit through active participation and discussion with management, co-workers, and subordinates. Review and complete the annual HIPAA training program for UNC School of Medicine per the HIPAA Website (www.med.unc.edu/hipaa). Review and complete all pertinent EHS modules that are specific to his/her job (http://ehs.unc.edu/training/requirements/shtml).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Individual must have a comprehensive knowledge of research principles, study design, methods of data/information collection and analysis to develop strategies and policies that guide projects and programs. Knowledge of statistics to interpret complex data and communicate trends and probable outcomes, preferably both qualitative and quantitative. Candidate must be familiar with quantitative statistical methods including basic statistical comparisons (t-test, chi-squared, etc.) and simple regression techniques (linear, logistic). Candidate must be familiar with qualitative research methodology. Familiarity with common statistical software packages (SPSS or Stata) and qualitative software packages (Atlas.ti, NVivo, etc) preferred.
This individual must have the required training/experience in order to plan and design data collection and analysis. Knowledge of quality controls, and report design alternatives is essential.
Individual must be able to define standards for data collection, in order to set up standards for accuracy, validity and integrity.
Ability to trouble-shoot and resolve quality control issues is required. Statistical knowledge to determine the best method to analyze data is required.
This individual must be able to develop methods to evaluate and interpret guidelines, and amend estimation methodology and procedures as warranted.
This position must be able to effectively communicate with funding agencies and investigators regarding the research projects.
This includes writing research proposals to funding agencies, preparing reports to provide accurate documentation of the research project, data collection and analyses, outcomes. Effective communication/writing skills are required for this position.
Master's or Doctorate degree in research, statistical, or public health related field preferred. Research experience at an academic medical center preferred.
