Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks scholars and leaders to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Physics to start in Fall 2020. We encourage applications from junior and senior scholars – for senior applicants with an appropriate record of achievement an appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be considered. Through the Invest Syracuse initiative (http://investsyracuse.syr.edu ) we are seeking candidates to join the university's program of excellence in gravitational-wave astronomy and astrophysics. We seek applications from researchers with an experimental physics background. The successful candidates will join our effort to address the fundamental challenges in instrumenting future gravitational-wave and related observatories. Applications are welcome from researchers whose interests are located in one or more of the following areas: Ultra high vacuum systems; cryogenics; quantum optics; mirror coating research; laser and optical component research; materials science; gravitational-wave detector development and commissioning. We are interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to be effective with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members. Experience mentoring students from marginalized groups is particularly valued. Applications from women and members of other groups traditionally underrepresented among scholars in higher education, generally, and physics in particular, are strongly encouraged.
