Partners with the Department Chair and the leadership team to align departmental goals with the overall Michigan Medicine strategy, and implements a strategy to support these goals.
Responsible for managing the department’s financial performance, human resources, service agreements with internal and external stakeholders, research administration, space utilization, educational administrative activities, clinical operations management – which includes assets and commodities management, regulatory compliance, capital projects, IT operations and internal controls.
Partners with the Department Chair in all areas of faculty affairs including appointment, privileging, and faculty satisfaction. Partners with faculty affairs in the Dean’s Office of the medical school and medical school finance for faculty economics and planning.
Negotiates and monitors performance of clinical service affiliations to optimize department revenue in compliance with Michigan Medicine policies. Serves as the administrative liason for 5 ambulatory care units (ACU’s).
Provides leadership with Michigan Medicine partners to continually strive for improvement in the areas of patient satisfaction, timely patient access, efficient utilization of resources and regulatory compliance.
Provides guidance and mentorship to faculty in administrative roles.
Stays apprised of current issues affecting an academic medical center, understands how these may impact the department, and adjusts strategy accordingly.
Collaborates to create a shared vision, effectively communicates the vision and inspires stakeholders to build consensus.
Creates value for a diverse community by fostering a climate of service excellence.
Leads innovation and change through the application of lean thinking philosophy, tools and techniques to increase operational efficiencies.

MBA, MPH or equivalent combination of a Bachelor's degree and experience.
Demonstrated ability to present and gain acceptance of ideas and proposals.
Knowledge of finance, accounting, and professional and technical billing.
Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication.
Demonstrated ability to be an effective leader in a complex and dynamic organization.
Knowledge in areas of clinical operations and funds flow in the organization.
Experience in managing research and grant activity and knowledge of clinical trials, pre- and post- award management.
Experience in managing gift funds and other financial assets.
Experience in developing and preparing contracts and proposals.
