The School of Drama seeks an Undergraduate Academic Advisor who will be responsible for guiding undergraduate students and helping them achieve academic success during their time at Carnegie Mellon University.
Reporting to the Assistant Head, you will be responsible for advising and counseling first and second year Drama students about academic and scheduling issues, meeting individually or in a group to provide advice and counsel on curriculum specific matters, college and university policies and procedures and non-academic factors affecting academic performance. You will also be responsible for a range of administrative tasks including but not limited to maintenance of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) academic audits, coordination and distribution of academic action notices and maintenance of the School of Drama syllabus registry. You will work closely with the Assistant Head to ensure effective student support.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Meet with undergraduate students to review and manage academic progress, assist with developing academic schedules, provide in-depth information regarding course descriptions, instructors, pre-requisites, etc;
Update student status records for registration purposes, field walk-in questions regarding curriculum, graduation, registration and career paths;
Monitor student records, academic progress and addresses problems with students to resolve potential graduation requirements shortcomings;
Provide support for advising done by faculty and coordinate efforts with faculty, assist with the development of advising programs to address specific needs;
Assess the advising process to make improvement recommendations;
Review records of students facing academic action (warning, suspension, etc.);
Coordinate further action with faculty and advisor;
Refer students to student counseling or health services, serving as departmental liaison as appropriate;
Maintain student records, updating periodically and archiving records for withdrawn, transferred and graduated students;
Communicate graduation document requirements and timeframes to students;
Assist with commencement and degree certification.
Bachelor's degree required;
1-3 years experience in academic counseling and advising;
Excellent organizational, planning and problem solving skills;
Ability to work independently and in a team/group;
