Position Summary: The Cardozo Admissions Application Reader serves as a member of Cardozo's Admissions Committee and makes admissions decision recommendations to the Dean and Assistant Dean of Admissions.
In evaluating candidates for admission, potential and aptitude for completing our rigorous program of study, and subsequent successful Bar admission are key criteria. As such, our review process carefully considers all predictive factors in candidates applications for admission, including:
LSAT results. When applicants have taken the exam multiple times, the entire testing history is considered in context, not just high or average LSAT scores.
Undergraduate academic performance. The Admissions Reader carefully reviews all undergraduate transcripts and pays particular attention to grade trends, course of study, rigor of classes taken, institutional grade inflation or lack thereof, and academic letters of recommendation.
Graduate or professional study. Any post-baccalaureate coursework is also carefully considered.
Academic honors, awards, and other recognitions.
Professional experience, including length of time in the professional world.
Extracurricular or community experience and other activities, especially positions of leadership.
Personal backgrounds, obstacles overcome, and personal/familial responsibilities.
Must be able to work independently. Sound judgment required; this person will serve on the Cardozo Admissions Committee and will regularly make recommendations to the Dean and Assistant Dean of Admissions regarding the possible admission of applicants.
Experience & Educational Background:
Required: Bachelors degree.
Preferred: J.D. or advanced degree and/or 3-5 years professional experience
Skills & Competencies:
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills essential
