Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey has several openings for highly motivated Student Assistants (Data Collectors) at the Rutgers School of Public Health, Center for Tobacco Studies. These positions are intended to collect data for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research study to better understand the impact of increasing the minimum legal age to buy tobacco and the extent to which this will be effective. There are four vacancies for this position. This position is 100% grant-funded and located in New Brunswick. NJ.
Attends mandatory training.
Travels to designated tobacco retail establishments around New Jersey.
Performs data collection on a variety of relevant measures.
Reviews and edits data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in Rutgers University
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques required.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience with primary data collection preferred.
Experience with tobacco control and training in research methods preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Lift or exert force up to 25 pounds.
As part of the research study, selected candidates must be 18-20 years of age through December 30, 2019.
Must have access to reliable car.
Early evening hours may be required.
This is a short term 100% grant-funded position; must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of up to 40 hours (preference for those able to work full-time) between August-December, 2019.
Opportunities to continue work beyond the Fall semester are contingent on performance and available funding.
