Established in 1969, Ramapo College offers bachelor’s degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, as well as in professional studies, which include business, elementary education, nursing and social work. The College also offers articulated programs, including dental, optometry, chiropractic and health professions, as well as visual arts therapy and law, with colleges and institutions in New Jersey and New York.
Undergraduate students may choose to concentrate their studies in one of five schools with more than 539 course offerings and more than 36 academic programs. Ramapo College boasts an average student/faculty ratio of 18:1 and an average class size of 23; affording students the opportunity to develop close ties to the College’s exceptional faculty.
The College offers part-time graduate programs leading to degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Educational Technology, Educational Leadership, Nursing, Social Work and Special Education.
A Psychological Counselor in the Center for Health and Counseling Services is responsible to the Associate Director and provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, psycho-educational programming, and consultation to the College community which includes faculty, staff, and students.
Conducts clinical assessments & makes referrals to community-based services when appropriate
Conducts individual and group counseling
Provides crisis intervention to students
Writes clinical case reports and notes
Provides prevention and educational outreach services regarding mental health related issues
Assists in data collection of on-going clients and satisfaction with counseling services
Consults with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs on mental health issues
Provides training to student groups, faculty, and professional staff regarding mental health issues
Provides supervision to graduate students
Hours may vary depending on the needs of the department and College and will include certain evening hours and holidays when classes are in session. Occasional weekend work (e.g., College Orientations, First-year Student Move-in Day, Admitted Students Day) will be required.
Licensed or licensed eligible Master level professional with degree in mental health, psychology, or social work (LCSW, LPC) or New Jersey Licensed or licensed eligible Psychologist.
Minimum three years (four years preferred) of counseling experience
Preference given to applicants who have worked in a college counseling center
A Doctoral degree may be substituted for two years of required work experience
Group therapy experience
Experience providing time-limited counseling
Demonstrated strong clinical skills in individual counseling essential
Demonstrated strong clinical skills in crisis intervention
Experience in mental health prevention and outreach
Experience with culturally diverse population
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to provide consultation and referral services
