The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
The Patient Care Coordinator I is a member of a dynamic team focused on coordinating all aspects of patient care. The role provides continuity of care by ensuring a smooth transition between care settings and by developing a trusted relationship with patients to identify and assist with each patients individual needs that may arise related to the care they receive.
Triage calls from referring physicians, patients, family members, and others wishing to access care at SCCA
Requests medical records from referring physicians and outside institutions, reviews them for content and completeness, and organizes them into designated categories for clinician review
Schedules and coordinates patients appointments
Collects and enters patient demographic and insurance information and enter into registration databases
Assists with the financial clearance process as necessary
Receives and responds to patient feedback
Responds to other patient requests as appropriate
Distributes work to the Patient Care Coordinator Assistant I or II as appropriate
High school graduate or equivalent, Bachelors degree (BA or BS) preferred
Ability to work independently, organize, and prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands
Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear and concise manner
Proficient in the use of word processing (MS Word), email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment
Demonstrated customer service skills
Ability to solve complex problems and meet patient needs
Ability to work in a high pressure, deadline oriented, and complex health care environment
Minimum of 2 years experience in a patient care setting preferred
Experience with Epic or other scheduling and registration software preferred

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s. The purpose of this organization is to provide state-of the-art patient and family centered care; support the conduct of cancer clinical research and education; enhance access to improved cancer interventions; and advance the standard of cancer care regionally and beyond. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Northwest, and according to the National Cancer Data Base, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients in general have better survival rates than patients treated at other cancer treatment centers.
