Memorial Sloan Kettering is seeking a Waste Management Specialist to follow established hospital procedures for handling, containment, and disposal of solid and infectious waste. This role will be located at our Josie Robertson Surgery Center.
Ensure all hazardous and regulated medical waste is properly scanned, segregated, packaged, transported and staged for removal
Transport full or empty regulated medical waste bins using tugger from dock to waste management room. All regulated medical waste bins must be closed prior to transport
Scan all waste brought into waste management room for low levels of radioactivity utilizing scintillators
Separate and stage radioactive waste for removal from waste management room by the Radiation Safety Department
Weigh full regulated medical waste bins and document weight
Package, tag and label pathological and regulated medical waste according to regulatory standards
Transport packaged pathological waste or regulated medical waste in closed leakproof bin using tugger to stage on dock(s) for removal
Ensure that mops are cleaned and disinfected for use throughout the facility
Wash mops according to the designated wash cycle
Dry mops thoroughly using designated drying cycle
Clean and disinfect the waste management room walls and floor
Organize all bins and equipment
Ensure waste management room is floor is free of debris
Dry mop waste management room floor
Ability to read, write and understand basic instructions
High School / GED preferred, but not required
Schedule flexibility / shift flexibility required
Must be able to work all available hours and shifts.
