Drew University is seeking a Major Gift Officer in the University Advancement Department. Reporting to the Executive Director of Individual Giving, the Major Gift Officer serves as senior-level, front-facing University representative to individuals (alumni, parents, and other friends of the institution) with identified giving capacity and inclination. Responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of prospective and current donors capable of making leadership gifts of $100,000 - $1,000,000 in support of Drew University's institutional priorities and academic programs. Works in collaboration with the Executive Director for Individual Giving, the Vice President for University Advancement, and the portfolio management staff to develop individual cultivation and solicitation strategies. This is a part-time opportunity with the staff member expected to spend most of the time traveling regionally and nationally to solicit, close, and steward leadership level gifts. This role can be headquartered in the regional advancement office in New York City, in the advancement office on the main campus of the University, or possibly elsewhere across the country.
Conduct visits with prospective, current and lapsed donors, traveling regionally or nationally, to advance conversations about current and deferred gifts to the University. This travel may occasionally require the presence of other members of the Drew community, including faculty, senior university leadership, and/or volunteers.
Working in collaboration with the Executive Director for Individual Giving, the Vice President for University Advancement, develop individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of current and prospective donors capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more in support of Drew University's institutional priorities and academic programs.
Work closely with campus partners to develop proposals; prepare materials; arrange for visits to campus; or otherwise engage and steward prospective donors, based on their interest in supporting Drew University's institutional priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Individual Giving
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
8+ years of experience as a fundraiser, preferably in Higher Education
Proven track record of closing six and seven-figure gifts
Superb organization and project management skills
Ability to be highly independently motivated
Track record of confidentiality and discretion
Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
Must possess a growth and entrepreneurial mindset with a nimble and flexible attitude
Ideal Education and Experience
Experience working in Higher Education
Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and Banner with an ability to quickly gain proficiency in a new CRM
