Job Summary: The Lead IT Architect works with Administrative Systems teams and the Northwestern community to solve business problems with technology.This is a collaborative position to identify common concerns and help articulate new possibilities that facilitate the strategic application of information technology in support of Northwestern strategies and priorities.The Lead IT Architect will focus on IT application strategy and data integration, providing strategic consulting as well as maturing the existing practices needed to support transformational projects.This position is responsible for developing an architecture framework, including maintaining an overview of IT assets and application models.The ideal candidate will have several years of experience building and improving architecture practices.
Actively collaborate with University partners and functional teams to determine how best to identify, select, and implement solutions that meet business requirements.
Understand, analyze, and decompose complex business processes and information into technical process components.
Create technical architecture models for the identified process components.
Participate in the evolution of the enterprise architecture practice and functions.
Maintain awareness of the evolving technology landscape, tracking trends and alternatives, to provide recommendations on technology evaluations and acquisitions.
Create the technical roadmap needed to transform enterprise systems.
Provide relevant documentation support the enterprise architecture practice and function, including best practices and recommended approaches for solution, data, and business architecture domains.
Create and maintain project architectural documentation including data models, solution diagrams, business value maps, and architectural requirements as well as the recommended technical approach and alternatives.
Review and validate high-level designs.
Develop reference and proof of concept code that adheres to standards.
Lead the peer review function for the Architecture Review Board to provide guidance, analyze recommendations, and provide constructive feedback.
Lead team of business architects, solution architects, data architects, and others.
Provide on-going feedback to coach and mentor team members.
Lead cross-training efforts within and across teams.
Other duties as assigned.
Understands new technologies, departmental expectations, and enterprise architecture principles and best practices.
Solid understanding of modules within the primary supported system.
Ability to interact, lead, negotiate, and resolve conflict independently.
Able to independently and rapidly learn from failures and incorporate learning into development tasks.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in Information Management or Computer Science and/or appropriate combination of education and relevant experience.
7 years of IT Architecture experience working on progressively complex solutions/projects/programs.
TOGAF Level 1 and Level 2 certification.
TOGAF Level 1 and Level 2 certification.
Certifications in domain areas ex. Solutions Architecture and Data Architecture.
Experience with large distributed systems preferred.
