The Department of Nutrition Science at East Carolina invites qualified applicants to apply for a twelve- month fixed term position as Clinical Instructor/ Academic Advisor.
The fixed-term position will be primarily involved in advising undergraduate students with course selection, entry into a concentration, registration, and review of records. The position works with students to enhance engagement in their major, college, university, and community at large. He or she makes personal contact with students; provides guidance about proper procedures regarding all necessary academic forms and use of electronic advising resources; refers students to appropriate university units, learning resources, and personnel; obtains and supplies students with supportive technical information; and meets with students who are in academic difficulty. This position would work closely with undergraduate program directors to answer student questions, address curriculum needs, manage student enrollment and govern program policies and requirements. As advisor, the position will participate in recruitment and retention through various University activities and initiatives such as Orientation, Open House, Pirates Aboard, Finish in Four, Part-way-home, etc.
The fixed-term position will also serve an instructor role for the department in introductory courses such as Contemporary Nutrition and Introduction to Nutrition Science as assigned.
The position will participate in faculty meetings, program administrative and/or department/university committee duties as assigned.

An earned Master's degree in nutrition, dietetics or closely related field received from an appropriately accredited institution and conferred by the time of hire. Status as a Registered Dietician Nutritionist is recommended.

The Department of Nutrition Science has 14 full-time faculty members to support an undergraduate program of nearly 200 students and a distance education graduate program of 50 students. In addition to Bachelor of Science and Master's degree programs, The Department of Nutrition Science houses ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and the supervised dietetic internship programs (DI). Areas of research within the department extend across the lifespan to include metabolic dysfunction, obesity-related pathophysiology, immunity, food literacy, nutritional assessment of vulnerable populations, diet quality, weight management and disease prevention. Our faculty have strong collaborations with the College of Health and Human Performance, Nursing, School of Dentistry and Brody School of Medicine. Brody School of Medicine is a leader in obesity research, cardiovascular health, and endocrinology, and affords collaborative teaching/research opportunities.
