This position is classified as a university program associate. The individual will function as a small business counselor, management education event organizer and trainer, and general office administrative duties including fiscal matters such as maintaining budgets, processing travel claims, invoices, visitor parking, report preparation, office equipment inventory and maintenance, and staff support. This person will be responsible for handling a significant amount of client intake including: deciding the best assistance options for each client (training versus individual counseling). The SBTDC client base includes small and mid-sized business (under 250 employees and sales less than $50 million). The person who fills this position must be able to effectively communicate with this wide variety of individuals. Consequently, the Business Counselor is expected to be very knowledgeable about start-up and existing business issues.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
a.Knowledge – Program & Org: Must be able to understand the types of services offered and determine what services are needed by new clients b.Program Administration: Provides administrative support for regional center as well as first-line business counseling. Requires knowledge of all services and functions provided by the regional center. c.Customer Service: Must provide excellent customer service to clients and potential clients, as well as other constituents. d.Communication – Verbal/Written: Must demonstrate high level of verbal and written communication skills to clients, potential clients, and other constituents in the local business community. e.Info/Records Admin: Requires ability to maintain records of client contacts, expenses and reimbursements, scheduling and various other records in support of the regional center.
Knowledge of digital marketing, to include email marketing using Constant Contact, email newsletter development, website development liaison with the Statewide Administrative Office, and database report writing skills.
