Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow for the Brain Health Institute, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The Post Doctoral Fellow joins a lab that is nationally recognized for research into cognitive functions of noradrenergic and other modulatory brain systems.
Under the direction of the Professor of Psychiatry, the incumbent will work on a project dedicated to studying the neurobiology of drug abuse. The position will work as part of a highly integrated research team utilizing a variety of laboratory techniques and approaches.
Performs research on brain substrates of addiction using advanced electrophysiological approaches in rat drug-self administration models.
Carries out studies using viral transfection techniques that allow for manipulation of neural systems using optogenetics.
Performs patch clamp electrophysiology experiments in the nucleus accumbens of rats that previously self-administered drugs.
Minimum Education and Experience:
PhD Degree in Neuroscience or a relevant science, with a focus on behavioral models of addiction or decision-making.
Demonstrated record of productivity as first author on one or more scholarly peer reviewed publications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Trained in animal handling and behavioral models of addiction, as well as experience in biological techniques.
Be able to operate standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, incubators, shaking incubators and plate readers.
Proficiency in English for both verbal and written communications is a requirement.
Knowledge and utilization of electrophysiology· and microdialysis techniques, microinjection of pharmacological agents, tissue sectioning and processing, immunohistochemistry and microscopy.
He/She should also be able to operate standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, incubators, shaking incubators and plate readers.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Lab environment. Exposure to blood, excrement, anti-neoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous-chemicals.
