The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Michigan-Dearborn invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in physics beginning September 2020. Preference will be given to applicants whose research specialty is in the area of experimental biomedical or medical physics. Tenure?track faculty members are expected to maintain an active research program that meaningfully engages undergraduate students and leads to peer?reviewed publications. Start?up funding and a research laboratory in our newly renovated Natural Science Building will be provided. Teaching duties include upper-level courses in Physics (Thermal and Statistical Physics and Advanced Laboratory being the most relevant) and participation in introductory Physics courses. Opportunities also exist for developing new courses within the applicant’s specialty.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn is primarily an undergraduate institution. The interdisciplinary Department of Natural Sciences has forty full-time faculty, including six in the Discipline of Physics and Astronomy. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics or a D.M.P. in medical physics and be committed to teaching from the full range of undergraduate physics courses. Successful applicants will demonstrate the capacity to develop an active research program that will involve undergraduate students and attract external funding. Postdoctoral research and/or teaching experience are also required.
