Under direct supervision of Service Center Management, the Service Center Specialist is responsible for providing coverage for the front desk and supporting the authorization staff. Additionally provides support and communication for patients, monitoring timeliness of providers. Participates in numerous open forums (Key User Meetings, Service Center Team Meetings) and other meetings as designated. Provides support to appointment scheduling and insurance verification as needed. Incumbent is responsible for answering multi-line incoming customer calls, assisting with online registrations, scheduling appointments, and securing authorization for scheduled services. Performs at advanced level.
Two (2) years of administrative support in a hospital setting or relevant experience.
Knowledge of insurance payors, including federal, state, and private health plans.
Prior experience with related systems: PCIS, IDX, and EPIC.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple lines and issues at once, while maintaining a positive attitude and excellent customer service.
Experience with high volume, multi-line telephone calls. Superb customer service presence.
Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Knowledge of or degree in Public Health or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in hospital based or medical group clinics.
Medical terminology training and/or certificate. Experience with related systems, EPIC.
Ability to prioritize and process therapy referrals based on diagnosis.
Experience with patient relations, concierge program, and/or rehab patient population.
Familiar with UCSD policies and procedures.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
