The Office of Computing Information Services at City Tech welcomes applications for the position of IT Assistant who will report to the Help Desk Manager. Working individually or within a team, the IT Assistant provides technical and IT support that helps resolve IT-related issues for the college.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Assisting with routine operations and problem resolution for computing and/or communications functions.
Assisting with user support as a technical support technician and assist in all aspects of computer hardware and software, delivery, installation, setup and configuration.
Supporting faculty and staff in person, by phone or via IT-based communication tools and troubleshoot and resolve PC, software, network and other hardware-related problems and issues.
Maintaining and repairing computers and peripherals.
Transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment.
Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document, and resolve problems.
Assisting with new and current academic lab(s) setup.
Assisting in researching and recommending new technology as well as suggesting efficient alternative solutions.
Organizing inventory, work documentation, training materials
Creating and editing technical documentation and other resources.
Maintaining guidelines, methods, procedures and policies regarding IT on Campus.
Escalating end user requests to the appropriate support group, as necessary.
Striving to meet Help Desk support guidelines; entering all issues in the appropriate tracking software.
Other duties/projects as assigned by the Help Desk Manager.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)
Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
Strong technical and communication skills as well as excellent customer service to City Tech College community.
Knowledgeable and able to support all City Tech College dedicated technology and setups.
Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites and able to troubleshoot user application errors
Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, web-enabled communication and Microsoft Office
Experience using Blackboard, CUNY Portal, CUNYfirst, etc.
Strong knowledge and understanding of Active Directory.
Working knowledge of creating and deploying images using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)
Strong knowledge and understanding of Windows Deployment Services (WDS).
Ability to work well under stress and communicate clearly in emergency situations.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, establish and meet goals, including the ability to make judgment calls and to respond tactfully in all situations.
For Level 1:
New hire: $ 45,464 *
Incumbent: $ 51,374
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months for employment only.
