The unique Entertainment Technology department has degrees in two areas: live production and Emerging Media. The live production area, where this position will be focused, covers all forms of live entertainment technology in areas such as concert touring, cruise ships, events, theatre, theme parks, museum exhibits, video production and other related areas. Most of our productions (including the nationally-known Gravesend Inn haunted hotel) take place in our 200-seat theatre. The college also has a brand new 1000-seat theatre with which we are closely collaborating. Lighting control is centered around GrandMA and ETC approaches.
We invite applications for a tenure-track position teaching Lighting and Production commencing in the Fall 2019 academic semester. The faculty member will lead, oversee and coordinate all lighting technology and design activities for the department; mentor students and help coordinate lighting-related internships and senior projects; help recruit students and market the department to the professional industry; maintain and update lighting and related curriculum as needed; build industry partnerships where possible; and make equipment proposals to keep the lighting department technology state of the art. Depending on abilities and interest, the faculty member will additionally help lead and teach in at least one other production area, such as video, projection, drafting, technical direction, scenic design, or producing.
City Tech expects its faculty to maintain professional development and research activities, and integration with other departments and new technology or process development is encouraged.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Teaching lighting and other courses, as determined by the candidate's interest and background
Coordinating lighting adjuncts and the lighting curriculum
Coordinating lighting technology and design for all department productions
Promoting the department
Student advising and recruitment
Providing service to the college
Pursuing creative or scholarly work
A terminal degree (Ph.D, MFA, MPS, or. degree) in area(s) of experience.
Interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement
Willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
A minimum of three-five years professional experience in lighting production
Proficiency with CAD software (Vectorworks or AutoCAD preferred)
