ABOUT THE POSITIONS - (2 Vacancies)
The Academic Advisor at Normandale Community Colleges serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive advising services for students who are: enrolling in college for the first time, clarifying their academic interests, preparing for admission to majors, pursuing declared majors, planning for graduation and transfer, and changing their academic goals. This position will teach student success courses on a regular department rotation and provide advising for the cohort of students in their courses. This position will be required to participate and lead college and department strategic initiatives relating to student success and completion.
Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field
Previous experience in academic or financial aid advising
Ability to explain and apply intercultural competence when working with students, staff, and faculty
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development
Experience working with a wide variety of student needs including referrals to internal and external resources
Strong ability to learn, understand and explain Normandale Community College policies
Ability to understand and communicate a variety of degree requirements
Experience working collaboratively as part of a team
Possess presentation skills to effectively promote and represent the college
Personal computing/technology skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; experience with and comfort utilizing multiple types of technology to provide advising services
Previous experience working with students in higher education, including academic advising, career counseling, financial aid, admission or records and registration
Fluency in secondary language such as Spanish, Somalian, Russian
Experience working with underrepresented populations
Experience teaching post secondary credit courses
Evidence of creating and implementing a variety of training methods
Experience working within Minnesota State colleges or universities
