The Office of Student Life is dedicated to creating the extraordinary student experience for every Ohio State Buckeye. We support students on their paths to success with programs and services that influence the daily lives of Buckeyes, including dining, housing, health and wellness, diversity and inclusivity, counseling and many more. As a member of the Network Services team, the Network Engineer will assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of highly available, scalable, secure and efficient networks that meet the needs of 17,000 residence hall customers and the business requirements of 50 departments consisting of 6,500 staff covering 94 locations on four campuses across the state; provides L2 incident and problem resolution for wired and wireless networks, including participation in an after-hours on-call rotation; installs, configures, and maintains all network infrastructure components in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures and best practices; monitors network performance, capacity, and enforces security policies & procedures; contributes to the training and development of student staff members; fosters collaborative working relationships with other Student Life technology teams, departments, external vendors/contractors and other university departments and service providers.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 1-3 years of experience in an enterprise networking environment (switching, firewalls, WAPs, structured cabling, fiber, VLANs, etc.); 1-3 years of experience with network monitoring, diagnostic, and analytics tools; 1-3 years of experience with network security (ACLs, firewalls, IDPs, SEIM, encryption, NAC, STP, etc.); working knowledge of common networking protocols (e.g. DHCP, STP, UDP, TCP/IP, IPSEC, 802.11, etc.) and wiring standards (conduit, TIA 568, UTP, Plenum, fiber, RJ-45, etc.); sound knowledge of the OSI or TCP/IP models; good analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using only documentation and internet resources; excellent customer service and written/oral communication skills; availability to work occasional evenings and weekends and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation; ability to lift, carry, and maneuver networking equipment (20 lbs.); ability to work with small items and in confined spaces.
Network+ or JNCP Associate certification; experience with Juniper and Aruba network equipment; experience with software defined networks and/or network virtualization; experience with hybrid cloud data center networking; experience with application development; experience with scripting and automation; experience with Linux systems administration.
Target Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 Annually
