Part Time Application Evaluator, Civil and Environmental Engineering-2014051
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is part of the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. We offer a number of programs and areas of study that are consistently ranked among the top programs nationally.
CEE is seeking a part-time application evaluator for the fall/winter of the 2019-20 application season (December - March). In this role, you will be responsible for the evaluation of application materials submitted to CEE in support of enrolling an academically qualified group of graduate students. You will be provided with in-house training and written guidelines and expected to work 15 hours per week and have a flexible schedule.
Attendance at on-campus training in early December and at weekly staff meetings is required. Start and end dates will vary based on candidate availability and the application workload.
Core Responsibilities Include:
Reviewing application materials including essays, transcripts, GPAs, resumes/CVs, recommendation letters, and test scores to provide an admission recommendation based on the guidelines provided by the Graduate Admissions Coordinator as well as professional judgment. Reporting any trends found in applications.
Providing justification for the admission recommendation. Documenting positive and negative aspects of applications, scores, justifications, and admission recommendations using the Slate Reader system
Working directly with the Graduate Admissions Coordinator to receive assignments and for consultation on complex applications
Bachelor's Degree required. Higher degree or a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering preferred.
Two years in admissions, college counseling, post-secondary education, or a related environment
Experience in graduate admissions work or a related field is preferred.
Strong analytical and verbal and written communication skills
