The Department of Computer Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a term faculty position at the rank of assistant teaching professor. Initial term is 3 years, beginning 1/1/2020, with possibility for renewal.
Responsibilities will include instruction in computer science courses, mainly at the undergraduate level, and may include lectures in a large classroom setting and supervision of teaching assistants who would cover smaller hands-on lab sections.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Masterâs Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field
Teaching experience or professional practice
Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field
Teaching experience in computer science or a related field
Demonstrated excellence in teaching
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Evidence of teaching-related institutional service
Record of successful participation in activities that impact education beyond the classroom
Proven ability to work and collaborate with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff
Department/Program & College Description:
The Computer Science department currently consists of 27 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty, four senior lecturers, and two lecturers. We offer B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and a B.S. in Software Engineering (jointly administered with the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering). We are also one of the founding departments for the B.S. degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. We are active in interdepartmental graduate programs in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Human-Computer Interactions, and Information Assurance. The Computer Science department has 609 B.S. students, 94 M.S. students, and 95 Ph.D. students. Almost all Ph.D. students are supported by research or teaching assistantships. We have strong research and educational programs in Algorithms and Complexity, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Databases, Data Mining, Information Assurance, Programming Languages, Multimedia Systems, Networks, Operating Systems, Robotics, and Software Engineering. Our department has over $16 million in active research grants. With the above interdisciplinary activities included, we contribute to active research and training grants totaling approximately $25 million.
