Custodial positions within Residential Life and Housing are expected to have daily interactions with students, faculty, and staff members. It is expected that custodians in Residential Life and Housing will assist students in developing a sense of belonging in their residential living spaces and at UMSL overall. RLH custodians should also build strong professional relationships with students, and work collaboratively with all staff to provide a safe, clean, environment where UMSL students can succeed.
Custodians are responsible for day to day cleanliness of residential facilities, common hallways, common kitchens, common restrooms, and other public spaces. On a compressed schedule with high volume, custodial staff will provide room turnover services as residents transition from their residence hall or apartment to prepare the space for the next resident to move in.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
This is routine, manual work utilizing knowledge of various custodial materials, equipment, methods and procedures used in maintaining a clean, neat and orderly building. Work is spot-checked frequently and reviewed by observation for neatness, cleanliness, efficiency and overall results. Functional contacts include students, staff and general public using building facilities.
A job offer for this position is contingent on passing a physical examination to determine if the candidate possesses the physical capabilities necessary to perform the essential functions.
Must be able to read and write.
A valid driver's license is required.
A person working in this classification will need to be able to lift, carry, and set down objects of moderate weight (25-50 lbs.) on a daily basis, and will also need to grasp broom and mop handles; work around dust and cleaning chemicals; and climb stairs, step stools, and ladders on a daily basis.
Physical strength, coordination and stamina sufficient to perform assigned duties.
