Job Description Summary
The School of Arts and Sciences seeks an experienced Linux/AWS systems administrator with a keen eye for security to join our team and manage information security for a range of web, application, and HPC services both on premises and in cloud platforms, especially Amazon Web Services.
The Senior Linux and Cloud IT Security Analyst will enhance our monitoring of on-premises and cloud infrastructure for vulnerabilities and possible compromises by centralizing logging and log analysis, developing new monitoring and anomaly detection, and implementing new controls for privileged accounts. They will constantly monitor the threat landscape and when new threats arise, provide analysis of their possible risk to SAS systems and recommend and/or implement risk mitigation.
As we move the majority of our infrastructure into AWS, the Senior Linux and Cloud IT Security Analyst will work with our sysadmin team, campus cloud engineers, and Amazon professional services to identify AWS-native and standards-based approaches to securing our infrastructure. The successful candidate will be able to boil down the hundreds of ways we could achieve our security goals to the simplest and most standards-based approach. In addition, they will work with our custom application developer team to develop and implement next-generation AWS systems for hosting our custom applications in concert with our established security protocols.
As a member of the SAS Computing team, the Senior Linux and Cloud IT Security Analyst will collaborate with other Security IT professionals across Penn on University-wide projects, and also contribute within SAS to incident response and planning and implementing information security improvements in our SAS technology infrastructure.
Bachelor's Degree and 3-4 years Linux systems administration including some experience in information security such as incident response, log analysis, security scanning, etc., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Understanding of linux services security best practices.
Demonstrated experience deploying and securing services in AWS.
Experience managing technology change, working with a team, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience evaluating technical risk and implementing mitigations
Experience with webservers, database and PHP applications a plus.
