A research technician II position is available in Dr. Naresha Saligrama’s group to work on T cells in various neurological diseases. Our goal is to understand T cell responses and determine their antigen specificity in autoimmune and neurological disorders like Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. The laboratory currently utilizes high throughput single cell sequencing technologies, yeast and phage display libraries. These techniques require handling primary samples, in vitro cell culture, and molecular biology techniques. Position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments including documentation and preparation of materials.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Assists with general lab maintenance as needed; maintains lab stock, manages chemical inventory and safety records, and provides general lab support as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.
Basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA electrophoresis, gel purification, and plasmid preparation.
General cell culture experience.
Willingness to handle mice.
General computer skills.
General understanding of scientific principles.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. This individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
