The Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for overseeing and administering all diversity and inclusion initiatives and programming for the Brody School of Medicine. Specifically, the Associate Dean will: Participate as part of the Dean's Administrative Leadership team and other key leadership groups in the school to inspire, mentor and educate various stakeholders about diversity and inclusion issues. Provide input into decision making, strategic planning, goal and policy setting that are necessary to sustain academic excellence and operational efficiency, with a focus on enhancing diversity and inclusion. Deliver Strategic Leadership by creating a vision for diversity and inclusion at BSOM and transmitting this vision to administration, faculty, staff and students. This will include setting annual goals and objectives for the Office of Diversity Affairs that support the mission and objectives of BSOM. Launch the development and implementation of strategic plans, procedures, proposals, and programs to ensure overall coordination and direction of diversity programs at BSOM, including maintenance of Departmental Diversity Metrics and Departmental Diversity Snapshots. Build a diverse educational environment that is culturally competent through direct educational efforts, curricular representation, and a focus on compositional diversity, climate, curriculum, and culturally and linguistically appropriate services. Create Workforce Diversity among students and resident physicians through work with pre-admissions pipeline programs, the BSOM Admissions Committee, and the Vidant Medical Center Graduate Medicine Education (GME) program and its GME Diversity Committee. Create Workforce Diversity among Faculty through collaboration with the Vice Chairs of Diversity and Inclusion, Brody Women Faculty Committee, and the Office of Faculty Development, to coordinate and evaluate programs to attract, retain, and promote the success of under-represented minority and women faculty and staff. Maximize Data Gathering, Analysis, and Regulatory Compliance. Monitor and evaluate programmatic effectiveness through quantitative, qualitative and other methods and implements changes required for improvement. Develop effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with accreditation agency requirements regarding diversity and inclusion. Along with the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and others, continue to build diversity scholarship and learning opportunities for medical school and resident physician learners by encouraging research, service learning and educational projects in areas related to diversity and inclusion in academic medicine. Able to navigate the institution's political landscape and able to respond well to politically-charged or politically-sensitive situations. Manage elements and dynamics of organizational change using past experience in leading or involvement in these efforts. Inspire and motivate administrators, faculty, staff and learners around the value of diversity and inclusion to Brody School of Medicine and beyond.
This appointment will have 80% effort dedicated to the role of Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. The remaining 20% effort will be allocated to faculty duties in the department of the candidate's specialty.

Must be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level; tenure potential dependent on candidate’s interest and background.
The Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer must have experience in developing, implementing, and/or administering diversity and inclusion programs, to include at least five years establishing a track record of leadership in building and evaluating diversity and inclusion programs for faculty and learners within an integrated, complex, and matrix academic medical center.
Must have demonstrated experience in the aspects of diversity to include: recruitment and retention issues, faculty diversity, learner diversity, diversity in healthcare, access and equity, culture of inclusion and identity development.
Experience collaborating with senior administration on strategic initiatives and programs that impact diversity.
Demonstrated management and project planning experience.
Must possess experience regarding the culture of healthcare.
Must demonstrate written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
