Academic Advisor and Field Experience Coordinator
The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR) is seeking a qualified candidate for the full-time classified position of Academic Advisor and Field Experience Coordinator. The Position will be part of the Undergraduate Student Services Staff in Fairfax and will report to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services. The student services staff at S-CAR commits to creating on-going, personal and purposeful educational partnerships with students and colleagues. Dedicated to putting students first and to being responsive to students in the program, we intend to contribute to student success by providing resources and by teaching students to develop the skills required to become life-long reflective learners capable of effective self-advocacy. This position requires occasional weekend and evening availability and will encompass the following responsibilities:
Meet with prospective, new and returning Conflict Analysis and Resolution majors and minors to discuss degree requirements, Mason and S-CAR policy and procedures for academic actions, academic skills, course scheduling, field experience, and career readiness and transition
Be knowledgeable about all student resources and when appropriate, connect students to offices that provide additional support
Maintain accurate and timely student records in accordance with Mason and S-CAR policy; coordinate with offices across campus to support student needs
Field Experience Coordination
Develop, coordinate and liaise with programs, events and initiatives related to the S-CAR field experience requirement. The S-CAR undergraduate field experience requirement encompasses internships, study abroad experiences, and independent research opportunities
Collaborate with internal and external organizations to develop partnerships that could result in enhanced experiences for undergraduate students completing their field experience requirement.
Work with faculty to advise and screen CONF 370 applicants and facilitate registration
Liaise with organizations to gain relevant and current career advice for S-CAR students
Coordinate with faculty and student services staff to promote, organize, and facilitate undergraduate program events
Technology and Communication
Collect information for, curate, and distribute the twice monthly S-CAR undergraduate program newsletter; maintain current undergraduate and undergraduate alumni listservs
Review and provide updates to the undergraduate website
Serve as the point of contact for phone and email inquiries
Assist with social media initiatives and the crafting of communications shared by admissions and recruitment
Bachelor's Degree or a combination of education and experience
Proficiency with MS Office programs
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Master's Degree or relevant experience
Experience with communication technology such as social media marketing, newsletter creation, or website content management
Experience in academic advising, career advising, or a field related to Conflict Resolution
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Excellent interpersonal skills to include a collaborative approach to projects
Exceptional attention to detail
Highly organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Engaging and professional presentation skills
Strong cross-cultural understanding or experience with a variety of student populations
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
