Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Part Time Peer Support Specialist III for the Maternal Wraparound Program (M-WRAP) at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) is a member of the Maternal Wraparound program (M-WRAP) who will provide non-clinical recovery support and peer coaching to the program participants. The Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) uses lived experience and basic peer support skills to engage and empower individuals to improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Engages individuals served in a collaborative supportive working relationship.
Meets individuals served in their homes and provides telephone support as per schedule developed with supervisor.
Assists individuals served in identifying their strengths and wellness needs in order to establish recovery goals.
Educates individuals served on how to navigate treatment, social service and recovery support systems.
Helps the individual served effectively address the problem and/or refers to appropriate clinical staff.
Offers insight into the experience of pregnancy, parenting, and/or living with a substance use disorder in order to assist staff in identifying program environments and treatment approaches that are conducive to recovery.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least three (3) years of relevant experience.
Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Peer Support Specialist or Family Advocate. If not certified, documented demonstrated progress toward completion of Peer Support Certification within 12 months is required.
Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must possess own vehicle or alternate means of transportation for use to outreach individuals served.
Experience with community-based service provisions to adults with addictions and/or pregnant women.
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
Must attend a three (3) day Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) State mandated training that delineates peer role functions, competencies, responsibilities and includes an orientation to DMHAS multiple treatment initiatives.
