Ohio University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of the Department of Social and Public Health. Along with 13 other academic disciplines in the College of Health Sciences and Professions, the Department of Social and Public Health contributes to a dynamic culture of innovation and collaboration in teaching, research, and outreach focused on individual and population health and wellbeing. The Department includes undergraduate programs in child & family studies, community & public health, environmental health, health services administration, long term care, and occupational hygiene & safety. Master of Public Health, Master of Health Administration, and Master of Child & Family Studies degrees are also offered. The Master of Public Health and the Master of Health Administration degrees are available in online formats. All programs in the Department are either fully accredited or are seeking initial accreditation with their appropriate professional accrediting associations. The Department is comprised of 20 faculty with plans in place to hire several more to support strategic growth in the Master of Public Health and Master of Health Administration programs. The new chair will lead the effort to attract the best teachers and scholars to these new positions. The Department of Social and Public Health is also a leader at the University in terms of population health research and outreach. The Appalachian Rural Health Institute serves as a multidisciplinary research platform and department faculty also administer an Appalachian Studies certificate program. In addition, the Department collaborates with the College's Global Health Initiative, Ohio Alliance for Innovation in Population Health and a variety of interprofessional education initiatives. The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Professions and assumes final responsibility for all academic, administrative, and budgetary decisions within the Department. The Chair fosters and supports the development of programs and maintains a shared vision that will enhance and achieve departmental goals. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in cultivating a positive and cooperative work environment in a diverse unit that values the highest level of teaching and learning experiences. The Chair is expected to teach discipline appropriate courses and may continue to engage in research and scholarship, while supporting research opportunities across the Department. The Chair will work collaboratively with university and community programs to promote student learning and research opportunities. Preferred candidates will have experience maintaining a diversity and inclusion in an academic setting.
1.PhD or equivalent. 2.Eligibility for a tenured appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank in one of the Department's academic programs based on a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service. 3.Evidence of academic leadership and administrative experiences and the ability to maintain a positive and cooperative work environment. 4.Experience with academic accreditation. 5.Experience managing academic budgets. 6.Experience with online education. 7.Experience with the promotion and tenure process.
1.At least 5 years of higher education academic leadership experience. 2.Evidence of quality undergraduate and graduate teaching. 3.Established record of mentorship of faculty. 4.Demonstrated involvement in state, national, and/or international professional organizations. 5.Evidence of support for diversity and inclusion in an academic setting.
