This position supports engineering staff in adapting to various software and computer applications used in project delivery processes and engineering analysis.UW's Seattle main campus comprises over 300 buildings and 15 million gross square feet, including a major medical center/teaching hospital, state of the art research facilities, classrooms, offices, sport and recreation facilities, dormitories, utility distribution systems, 8 miles of utility tunnels and two central utility plants. Other UW campuses and facilities comprise over 230 buildings and 4.5 million gross square feet including the University of Washington Tacoma and Bothell campuses, Pack Forest, Forks, Sand Point, Friday Harbor and the UW Tower complex.Primary Duties and Responsibilities*Assist Engineering Services staff (all disciplines) in performing field investigations and data gathering to perform engineering analysis and facility condition assessments and related surveys.*Act as liaisons, and assist ES staff in the implementation of new and continuously changing project management and project delivery applications, employed during the design and construction review of Capital Projects.*Assist in composing engineering reports and presentations including the employment of spreadsheets and graphic information software tools.*Assist in providing training in the use of tools and modules for data gathering and surveys.*Perform research to update and publish architectural and engineering design guides and standards.*Collaborate with members of the Business Intelligence and IT (BIIT) group to plan, develop, test, and maintain modules and tools for gathering, new and existing, building and systems information (i.e. accessibility surveys, facility condition ratings, asset information, etc) using the "InVision Penbay"..*Assist in the development, update, and maintenance of databases and software tools to gather and store survey information in support of architectural and engineering analysis and related activities.*Assist ES Architects in performing site observations and creating reports for various systems (i.e. building envelope, electrical, mechanical, etc).*Assist Engineering Services staff in providing engineering support in feasibility studies, campus master planning, utility master planning, maintenance and operations activities, etc.*Perform complex word processing tasks, use spreadsheet and database software, to assist in the development of various engineering and architectural data gathering and reports.*Other duties as assigned.Core Competencies*Demonstrate personal integrity and trustworthiness.*Manage stressful situations and changing priorities effectively.*Anticipate, recognize and resolve problems.*Be responsible and accountable.*Use organizational skills and provide attention to details.*Maintain a positive, optimistic, and success-oriented attitude.*Exercise professionalism, which includes being tactful and courteous.*Exhibit a professional work ethic.*Continuously promote a safe work environment.Education & ExperienceRequired*High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.*2 years of experience in field data collection and surveys.*General knowledge of web/internet hardware and software technologies, along with an ability to communicate on technical subjects effectively with non-technical staff.*Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital mapping applications.*Must be able effectively communicate with others.*Proficient in basic computer skills such as spreadsheets, word processing, and remote data collection.*Self-driven and able to work well in teams and independently.*Ability to conduct business in a professional manner.*Ability to learn new skills and appropriately prioritize tasks.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.Desired*General knowledge of web/internet hardware and software technologies, along with an ability to communicate on technical subjects effectively with non-technical staff. *Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital mapping applications.*Experience in using the InVision software.*Solid communication skills with ability to speak and write about technical issues*Knowledge of databases and cloud technology.Conditions of employment*Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.*Must be able to reach and lift overhead.*Valid Washington State Driver's License.*Able to work in a non-smoking environment.*Regular and predictable attendance is required.Application Process:The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
