Strategic Marketing & Communications - Digital Services
UMKC's Division of Strategic Marketing and Communications is looking for a creative, collaborative web editor to write, edit, and layout pages for UMKC academic and administrative units' websites. The ideal candidate would feel comfortable producing and organizing web content for internal and external audiences and must be versed in web and email platforms. Strong writing and organizational skills, plus experience in meeting deadlines, are musts.
The job requires someone who can:
Work with web content strategist to interpret and execute web strategy for website redesigns and migrations.
Track, gather, proof and edit written content from a variety of sources.
Identify photo needs and select engaging and relevant brand photos from the photo archives for use on webpages, in emails
Create accessible web content using superb judgment, writing, editing and creative skills.
Edit and proofread existing content, keeping in mind usability, accessibility, client goals and overall web strategy.
Maintain quality and accuracy of web content as it evolves over time.
Optimize content for SEO with consistent brand language, tone, and voice.
Review website analytics and recommend updates to improve the user experience.
Demonstrate strong people skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of team members and customers, building positive relationships.
Juggle a variety of projects, demonstrating ability to move quickly on short-term needs while making progress on longer-term goals.
Anticipate client needs and make suggestions on alternative or additional projects when appropriate to increase efficiency, respond to budget constraints or meet project goals.
Timely communicate expectations, turnaround times, and any updates to timeline or process with the project manager.
Respond productively to feedback and ask clarifying questions to resolve misunderstandings.
Work samples required. Provide website URL or attach a document with samples.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
A Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Journalism, English or related area.
Ability to prioritize among multiple projects, meet deadlines and remain adaptable in a changing environment.
Understanding of best practices for web and email writing
Experience in Website Development Life Cycle
Understanding of Google Analytics, SEO, and website accessibility best practices
Proficiency in AP style a plus.
HTML and CSS knowledge.
Experience working with web CMS (Wordpress, Cascade Server)
Proven track record of producing high-quality digital media content.
Experience in marketing and/or higher education environment preferred.
Full Time/Part Time
This position is full time, benefit eligible.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
