TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE II , B iological Engineering-Bathe Lab , to assist investigators pursuing NIH-funded research in neurobiology, imaging, and therapeutics. Responsibilities include mammalian cell culture; identification and validation of antibodies for immunofluorescence; fluorescent labeling and purification of nucleic acids; antibody conjugation and purification; design and synthesis of oligonucleotide probes for RNA labeling using FISH; cell fixation, permeabilization, and staining using oligo and antibody probes; routine biochemical and molecular biology techniques including gel electrophoresis, PCR, and maintaining mammalian cell culture; and managing the lab's everyday needs, e.g., helping modify or develop new protocols, training lab members on safety and other policies and procedures, and ensuring maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Job Requirements REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, or related discipline; at least four years' laboratory technician experience in a research lab setting; demonstrated proficiency with HPLC and FPLC for nucleic acid, peptide, and protein purification; experience with antibody labeling, conjugation, and purification; expert-level knowledge of click chemistry and its application to protein and nucleic acid labeling; hands-on experience with protein and antibody purification and analysis by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting; ability to execute routine biochemistry and molecular biology protocols including primer design, cloning, and PCR; gel electrophoresis (native and non-native PAGE and agarose gel electrophoresis) experience; proficiency with mammalian cell culture; willingness to learn new techniques/protocols; ability to perform independent research and work as part of a team, follow complex instructions, plan and troubleshoot experiments, work closely with collaborators to keep reagent availability current, and document and maintain work in detailed written records; and excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience with siRNA design, qRT-PCR, and RNA-Seq desirable.
