The Bilingual Nutrition Educator fluent in Spanish is part of the Nutrition Education Team (NET) who provides nutrition education in Spanish throughout community settings, may conduct follow-up calls and health coaching sessions in Spanish.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Lead nutrition education in Spanish via Nutrition Education Sessions (NES), and Workshops (WS) in accordance with established curriculum and current dietary guidelines
Engage clients in a conversation (NES) or a facilitated discussion (WS) guided by curriculum materials and using motivational interviewing skills to communicate key messages and to promote healthy behavior changes
Complete and collect evaluations from every client
Recruit health coaching clients during nutrition education sessions/workshops
Maintain flexibility regarding to each community site location, setup, and presentation of materials
Model program standards regarding leadership, confidentiality, communication, and teamwork
Transport materials between sites and USJ or pass on to other educators
Attend orientation, training, and review sessions, including annual civil rights training
Conduct on-site food demonstrations and tastings
Obtain a food demo kit, food items and supplies for on-site food demonstrations and tastings
Utilize proper food handling and food safety techniques in transporting preparing and holding food
Review evaluations, organize materials, and complete Packing Slip and Summary Sheet
Provide feedback on sites (including time, site, directions, materials, etc.) to Program Coordinator via email, Packing Slip, and/or Summary Sheet
Complete timesheets, expense reports, and program related documents in a timely manner
Accept invites and review calendar each workday for updates related to site, educators, or material requirements
Pickup/return materials as indicated on the calendar, communicate any conflicts to Program Coordinator or Administrative Coordinator
Review content of the bin, materials, and/or script prior to the session
Counted, clean, and organized all materials, food demo kits, and bins; note any issues on Packing Slip
Provide feedback on the delivery and content of curriculum to the Program Coordinator
Mentor student volunteers and educators including onsite training on process and curriculum
Conducts follow-up calls weekly by contact SNAP-Ed participants by phone and/or email and record their answers to the questions
Fluent in Spanish; reading, writing and speaking is mandatory
BS in nutrition and/or dietetics
Previous experience providing community and group education is preferred
Previous experience working in a self-directed environment is helpful
Previous experience working with patients, clients, and customers is helpful
Valid Driver's License
Registered and insured vehicle, must provide your own transportation to and from sites
ServSafe Food handler certified
