Position Summary: Under close supervision, this position provides assistance to UCCE Specialists and Advisors in data collection, laboratory work and data analysis for research projects; maintains and organizes electronic archive of all projects; assists with development of data sets describing plant growth, soil fertility and water use based on a variety of sampling methodologies; assists with organizing meetings of farmers, consultants and researchers.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed to meet project needs. Occasionally work under extreme weather conditions to collect soil and water samples and perform field work. Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.

Job Close Date:
Prepare equipment for field work and data collection, collect soil, plant and water samples, setup data logger for automating data collecting, learn new procedures for operating electronic equipment related data collection, and transport to preserve parameters to be measured. Install and maintain equipment to measure soil moisture content, water use and distribution uniformity, among others.
Job Requirements Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks to ensure successful completion. Required
Experience using excel spreadsheet formulas and graphing for data analysis, word processing and electronic mail. Required
Working knowledge and experience with data logging equipment including programming and installation of multiple sensors. Preferred
Experience with soil, plant and water sample collection. Preferred
Lab experience in soil and plant analysis. Preferred
Working knowledge of basic agricultural research methods applied within irrigation and nutrient management. Preferred
Knowledge of data collection and data management. Preferred
Working knowledge and experience with all aspects of plant cultivation and water and nutrient use and understanding of management impacts on irrigation and plant growth. Preferred
Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally communicate with cooperators, administration, staff, visitors, and students. Preferred
Experience using Adobe applications to create professional quality graphics and print materials to generate reports and outreach materials. Preferred
Experience using ESRI ArcGIS. Preferred
Experience in using, learning and repairing electronics such as data loggers and sensors. Basic construction practices and fabrication (use of hand and power tools). Preferred
Ability to prioritize work and complete tasks in a timely fashion. Preferred
