Advertised Job Summary:
The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academics and is responsible for all aspects of the Undergraduate Program(s) and related academic duties/responsibilities.
Oversees day-to-day operations of the undergraduate academic program(s): oCoordinates curricular planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision based on evaluation data. oCoordinates implementation of policies for student admission, progression, retention, and graduation. oMaintains undergraduate student handbook and sections of the USC Undergraduate Bulletin.
Assures that needed agency contracts are in place for clinical learning experiences in conjunction with the Clinical Compliance Coordinator.
Assigns all clinical placements for undergraduate students in collaboration with course coordinators.
Collaborates with Associate Dean for Academics to ensure all CON practice sites provide appropriate educational experiences for undergraduate faculty and students.
Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academics in the development of new programs and teaching methodologies.
Coordinates all new nontraditional teaching methodologies and/or schedules with the Director of Distributed Learning and/or the Director of Informational Technology.
Collaborates with the Dean and Associate Deans in preparing reports and accreditation self-studies.
Assures undergraduate student compliance with college, university state, and federal regulations/guidelines.
Collaborates with the Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies, Associate Deans for Academics, and Faculty Affairs to prepare faculty teaching assignments and provide input into program director annual reviews.
Provides support for the regional campus directors and assures accreditation standards, policies and procedures are maintained for the undergraduate program at all locations.
Serves as coach and mentor to undergraduate faculty members.
Represents the College in all school and university activities including assigned committees, task forces, and events.
Represents the Associate Dean for Academics at university, community and professional activities as requested by the Associate Dean.
Coordinates implementation of the Strategic Plan initiatives for the undergraduate academic program(s).
Provides oversight for hiring, managing and evaluating clinical/adjunct faculty teaching in the undergraduate program(s).
Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academics and the Faculty Council in the evaluation of Strategic Plan outcomes.
Monitor outcomes (e.g. NCLEX certification pass rates, course/faculty evaluations) to determine achievement of program objectives.
Participate in the development of grants to support undergraduate programs and initiatives.
Plans for faculty and other resources needed to conduct programs and submits resource needs to the Associate Dean of Academics.
Participates in recruitment and interviewing prospective faculty.
Collaborates with the Undergraduate Studies Manager in student matriculation and retention issues for the undergraduate program.
Maintains own tenure/tenure-track or clinical promotional faculty responsibilities/activities.
Participates in appropriate professional organizations/meetings.
Serves as an exemplary role model supportive team member of the Dean’s expanded senior leadership group with all stakeholders, including university officials, CON alumni, faculty, students, and staff.
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
Eligible for academic appointment to a tenure-track or clinical-track associate professor or professor rank preferred, assistant professor required. Holds an earned doctoral degree in nursing or related field. Prior teaching and administrative experience in an undergraduate nursing program of an accredited institution of higher learning. Holds an unencumbered South Carolina RN or APRN license.
