The Department of Family Science and Human Development is seeking a senior faculty member to serve as Department Chair. The department includes a set of vibrant and growing academic programs with a focus on knowing and strengthening individuals and families across the life course, with a cross-cutting emphasis on inclusion and social justice. The Departmentâ™s diverse academic community includes 13 faculty, 4 staff, almost 1000 undergraduates across three concentration areas, and 38 PhD students. Faculty and graduate students have an established record of productive scholarship, including securing grants and managing large grant-funded projects. The Chair (a) manages, supports, and ensures excellence across the administrative (personnel development, fiscal oversight, advocating for and seeking new resources), academic (e.g., curriculum and program development), and scholarly endeavors in the department; (b) contributes to the vision and growth of the department and the College; and (c) serves as a representative of the department with university and external constituencies. All faculty are expected to be involved in teaching and scholarship. The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.
Earned doctorate in Family Science and Human Development or related field. Established record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service that meets or exceeds the requirements for tenure at the rank of Professor at Montclair State University. At least two years of higher education leadership (e.g., program director) and/or administrative experience. A strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Evidence of innovative and creative leadership and effective communication within and outside a department.
