ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL DUTIES
Work a rotating 8 hour shift for 24 hour coverage shifts may include day, swing and grave while also including weekends and holidays Patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot or by vehicle to maintain security; Ensure adherence to institution rules and regulations, local, state and federal statutes and ordinances Issue citations for violations of campus regulations Write reports covering activities encountered during assigned shift Dispatch service calls to officers on the field Investigate complaints, accidents and any possible criminal activity Operate department communication equipment; answer telephone inquiries; receive reports of criminal activity; dispatch foot and mobile units; operate paging system; monitor alarm systems; prepare, type, and distribute reports Contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the organization Perform related duties as required
High school graduation or equivalent Possession of a valid driver's license One (1) year of full-time college in police science or allied field. Or one (1) year of police or security experience Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality Ability to contribute to an environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of organizational goals Effective providing ongoing customer service to clients and ability to relate to students, staff and faculty of variousages, backgrounds Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, walking and running significant distances; restrain and take into custody another person; lift or otherwise move up to the weight of a person; climb stairs. Must be able to perform duties in confined spaces and varying outdoor weather conditions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of college-level, trade or vocational education Prior work experience as a police officer, police reserve, military police or security experience in higher education Knowledge of: rules governing access to buildings and grounds; rules of behavior; general safety precautions and fire hazards; methods and procedures in dealing with clients, visitors, staff; methods and procedures for searching for escapees and violators; firefighting equipment and fire prevention methods; first aid; report preparation and writing; verbal communication skills; observation skills; law enforcement basics; investigation procedures; electronic security systems. Ability to: learn rules and enforce them; follow written and oral instructions; meet emergencies and employ effective courses of action; write reports; investigate incidents and obtain pertinent information; observe and detect suspicious situations; communicate with staff, residents and general public; apply first aid; operate electronic security equipment; use firefighting equipment.
