The Social Media Manager leads social media strategy for Northwestern University within the Office of Global Marketing and Communications (OGMC), managing Northwestern’s top-level, most engaged social channels. The Social Media Manager leads OGMC’s social media analytics effort and helps lead a cross-departmental analytics team within OGMC, setting a strategy for gathering and analyzing key data for all department communications and marketing, including paid, owned and earned media; marketing; social; and the web. They also work with other departments and schools to coordinate social media efforts and analytics, and help develop University-wide social media standards, best practices and training. They are tasked with growing Northwestern’s social following and increasing social engagement/reach with the ultimate goal of improving the reputation of the University. They will supervise and work closely with the Social Media Specialist.
Note: Occasionally has to work late on a weeknight or work on a weekend day, depending on news needs.
Oversee OGMC social media strategy and analytics; supervise and collaborate with Social Media Specialist to execute content across all top-level social media channels; Develop, manage and optimize paid campaigns across digital platforms, and analysis of those campaigns against benchmarks.
Set benchmarks and deliver performance reports for specific social media projects.
Help lead a department-wide team that gathers and evaluates analytics, defining workflows in internal and external systems to ensure that the correct data is captured and reported; Help ensure analytics drive successful outcomes for OGMC.
Gather, analyze and interpret data, primarily on social media, to measure success and inform projects, and to guide ongoing efforts to maximize the impact of OGMC initiatives and drive decision making, as well as learning and supporting ongoing media relations and marketing initiatives, including web analytics.
Work with other schools and departments to ensure coordination of analytics and social media strategy university-wide, including best practices, standards and training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or similar.
4-5 years of social media experience with a focus on analytics.
Experience with, and understanding of, all social media channels.

Strong social media skills across all social platforms.
Experience planning and executing paid media.
Ability to gather, analyze and interpret data, especially related to social media.
Experience with visualization tools. (e.g. Tableau or other)
Experience with, and strong skills with Sprinklr.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and presentation skills.
Ability to analyze trends and stay abreast of a rapidly changing digital environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues of different skill level and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Advanced degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or data analytics.
Experience with Google analytics.
Experience in higher education.
Experience managing teams.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Proficiency in media monitoring platforms, in particular Cision.
