The Rutgers School of Health Professions – Physician Assistant (PA) Program seeks to hire a per diem PA to join our orthopedic surgery practice. The PA will primarily be responsible for orthopedic surgery call coverage at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in collaboration with physicians from New Jersey Medical School. The PA will cover night and weekend call on a rotating schedule. Principal clinical responsibilities include covering first call for emergency department and floor orthopedics consultations, assisting in the operating room when necessary, and performing weekend rounds.
The PA may, on occasion, be responsible for covering day-time shifts. During day-time shifts the PA will coordinate and perform pre-operative assessments, assist in the operating room, develop and implement treatment plans, provide post-operative care, evaluate and treat patients in the outpatient setting, provide non-operative care, and perform orthopedic assessments and procedures on floors and in the emergency department as necessary .
Minimum Education and Experience:
The qualified candidate will possess a Master’s Degree or higher and will have graduated from a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The qualified candidate will possess current certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and a New Jersey Physician Assistant license issued by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners. Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required. Prior orthopedic surgery experience is preferred but not required.
