1. Under the direction of the supervisor, and under limited supervision, performs assignments and assumes general responsibility for the completion of assignments. 2. Directs the work of support employees under the direction of the supervisor. 3. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments and recommends changes. Secure materials, supplies and equipment. 4. Performs incidental work required on the equipment maintained by the trade. 5. Maintains clean work area and/or cleans up job site. 6. Observes safety standards and practices. 7. Inspects, tests, adjusts and balances heating, cooling and ventilating systems (air and water systems) using specialized tools and test equipment to meet functional and performance specification design requirements. 8. Testing includes tasks like measuring airflow and velocity, static pressure and uniformity testing, differential pressurization testing, air flow visualization and duct leakage testing. 9. Adjust equipment parameters as well as balancing dampers and flow control valves including other air and water related appurtenances to achieve proper operating requirements. 10. Perform minor temporary duct repairs as required in the performance of air balancing duties. 11. Investigate system malfunction and operational deficiencies to determine cause and implement / recommend corrective actions. 12. Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, performance data and other design documentation to determine proper system configuration as well as operating parameters and set points. 13. Develop and maintain proper documentation utilizing appropriate forms for all testing and balancing work performed including calibration of test equipment. 14. Work in conjunction with other trades in support of testing and balancing work. 15. Communicate deficiencies and recommendations to supervisor and other employees. 16. Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification.
