Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Staff Nurse oversees the coordination of and compliance with Student Health Service preregistration requirements for entering students (including immunizations, meningococcal vaccine waiver forms, health history, physical exam, and PPD). The Staff Nurse also coordinates compliance with annual immunization requirements for clinical students and takes lead responsibility for administration of travel vaccines for students.
Assists annually in updating "Preregistration Health Requirements" packet.
Monitors receipt of required clinical documentation for entering students.
Reviews submitted materials for accuracy and completeness.
Ensures student compliance with pre-clinical and preregistration requirements, including timely communication with students and with schools or programs.
Clears students with complete documentation in SIS system.
Enters documentation in the electronic medical record.
Provides continually updated data to the Nurse Manager and Executive Director to coordinate outreach to those students who are not compliant.
Organizes administration of necessary immunizations, PPDs or verification of titers for new students arriving on campus to fulfill registration requirements.
Administers immunizations, PPDs and draws blood both for entering and continuing students as required.
Monitors costs of laboratory care and immunizations to update appropriate student fees as outlined in the SHS policies.
Orders necessary immunization/PPD supplies, using annual competitive pricing.
Oversees administration and ordering of travel vaccines.
Prepares annual Measles-Mumps-Rubella Screening report as required by New York State.
Responsible for reviewing, updating and complying with Vaccine Storage Requirements.
Documents care given in accordance with state requirements and best medical practices.
Performs additional related duties as assigned, including triage and cross-coverage of other nursing duties.
Completion of an education program allowing licensure by New York State as a state registered nurse. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.
Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of New York.
Knowledge of immunization requirements and practices.
At least three years clinical experience as a registered nurse, preferably in an outpatient setting, including experience with immunizations (e.g. travel clinic or student health).
Computer literacy required, including Excel and word processing. Experience with electronic medical records highly desired
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
