Reporting to the Associate Director of Student & Young Alumni Engagement, the Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in the relationship between current students and philanthropic engagement on campus, guiding the transition from freshmen, to seniors, to recent graduates.
The Student & Young Alumni Engagement Officer actively oversees the Voice Your Choice Program, a newly implemented college-wide philanthropy education program. The Engagement Officer will cultivate a culture of philanthropy at the College by partnering with students, organizations, and leaders to align student interests with institutional philanthropic priorities and opportunities.
The Engagement Officer will recruit, train, and mentor a Senior Class Gift Committee each year to excite and encourage the students to participate in their class gift. The Committee holds events and partners with the Class Executive Committee to reach a certain percent of participation each year.
The Engagement Officer will manage the Phonathon program, defining the roles and responsibilities of student fundraisers within the program. The Engagement Officer will recruit, hire, train, and manage a staff of students in an effort to build relationships, maintain records, and raise funds to support the College. The ideal candidate will have an adjusted schedule one to two days a week to attend a shift / a part of a shift that runs from 6:15pm - 9:30pm. The Engagement Officer will work with the Associate Director to analyze the metrics around the phonathon program data to inform strategy.
The successful candidate will immerse themselves in the culture of Emerson College and be a collaborative partner to student, campus, and community leaders in the effort to educate about the impact of philanthropy at the College.
They will be well versed in fundraising best practices and emerging trends, and an early adopter of new fundraising technology. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and outstanding organizational and time management skills. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a team player, and have the ability to build relationships across the College as well as with donors.
Bachelors degree required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, as well as knowledge of marketing tools and database experience needed. Strong knowledge of social media preferred, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Design experience a plus. Direct experience with annual giving solicitation marketing strategy preferred.
Experience with Raiser's Edge NXT (or comparable donor database) and Wilson Bennett (or comparable automatic calling system) preferred.
1-3 years of nonprofit development, management, annual giving, social media, marketing, public relations, or similar professional work experience required. Knowledge of direct response fundraising, especially email, social media, and marketing best practices and metrics. Demonstrated project management skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently, attention to detail and follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are essential.
