Under the general supervision of the Controller, this position is responsible for all aspects of the University's annual budgeting and multi-year planning process as well as the implementation and management of budgeting systems and user training and support. The Budget and Planning Director is responsible for the systematic automation of the budgeting process to meet the current and future needs of the University. This position works under limited supervision and must exhibit a high level of sound independent judgement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development, reporting and management of budgets for the University.
Responsible for the development of financial forecasts, models, planning scenarios, and multi-year financial projections.
Designs and implements effective budgeting policies and procedures related to the University budget.
Oversees the periodic analysis of budget vs. actual reporting, working closely with department heads and University leadership.
Supervisory responsibility over resources assigned to support budget preparation and reporting.
Responsible for the automation of the budget process, including the research, design, implementation and maintenance of budget information systems and related system enhancements.
Leads Budget Committee meetings, including speaking and presenting in front of committee (including senior leadership team) as well as being able to respond to inquiries at meetings.
Partners with leadership to develop and deliver strategic objectives. Represents the Budget Department at various University strategy/budget related meetings.
Ensures compliance with internal policies, rules and regulations.
Supervises Senior Staff Accountant and ensure proper use of designated gift funds based on signed donor agreement stipulations and restrictions.
Suggests spending improvements to increase efficiency and savings
Creates and distributes ad-hoc reports as requested.
Performs additional special projects and/or other duties as assigned.
Familiarity with accounting principles.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications with advanced knowledge of Excel.
Experience working with ERP and/or budgeting systems.

Learn new concepts quickly and accurately.
Ability to work in close proximity with others and with frequent interaction.
Strong organization and prioritization, interpersonal, basic mathematics, customer service, data entry and very accurate typing.
Bachelor's degree in related field: accounting, finance, business, etc.
5+ years' experience directly related to job description.
