We seek an innovative and productive scientist and leader to join the Rutgers School of Public Health as Associate Professor/Professor and Associate Dean for Research.
The ideal candidate will provide strategic vision and intellectual leadership for the School while engaging synergies across the Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences and provide visionary leadership in the research of SPH as it works to fulfill its mission and realize its strategic plan. The Associate Dean will leads a portfolio of institutional efforts to sustain a culture of excellence among the SPH faculty members. Functional areas of primary responsibility include research development of the School.
The successful candidate will oversee the Office of Research: provide leadership to the school faculty in developing and coordinating a successful research portfolio for the school; monitor federal state and University policy with respect to research and will advise principal investigators on policy issues; coordinate the school’s requests for the federal and state legislative agendas and will monitor other opportunities for research funding; oversee pre-awards grant activities to build a high quality research infrastructure; create opportunities to improve faculty research engagement, pre-award grants development and post-award grants management, within and across-school faculty collaboration, and dissemination of research findings for maximal impact ; coordinate with University administrative offices devoted to research on strategic initiatives, compliance, best practices, and assessments to track the success of SPH faculty and research endeavors; serve as the primary point of contact for SPH and standalone centers and institute directors; maintain ongoing and regular communication with center directors; develop and oversee a program of reporting on center activities including but not limited to grant activity and engagement of students; develop and oversee an annual research program highlighting work of faculty and students; represent the school at University meetings of Research Deans (e.g., Council of Research Deans (CoRD); implement and grow all metrics related to SPH research.
The position will have an academic appointment in or across any of the 4 Departments of the Rutgers School of Public Health – Biostatistics and Epidemiology; Health Behavior, Society and Policy; Environmental and Occupational Health; Urban-Global Public Health.
While we are open to candidates with a wide range of scholarly expertise, we are particularly interested in scholars who would most strongly complement the School's areas of excellence, which include the following: cancer disparities; environmental and occupational health and justice; health reform and access to care; gun violence prevention; HIV/HPV/TB and other infectious diseases; LGBTQ health; modern statistical methods; substance use and mental health; tobacco control; gun violence prevention; public health nutrition; sexual and reproductive health.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Successful applications will have a doctoral degree or equivalent, a demonstrated record of scholarship appropriate to rank, with an established research program supported by extramural funding.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
We seek an individual with an established and sustained, extramurally funded research program informed by observational studies, clinical trials, implementation science, and through the application of innovative methodologies and approaches. Candidates should be motivated to understand and improve public health and population well-being through scholarship and community engagement. The successful candidate will also contribute actively to our teaching mission using modern pedagogical techniques, engage in creative curriculum development, and mentor MPH and doctoral students.
