The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) functions as an integral member of the Student Health Services' healthcare team. Under general supervision, the Medical Office Assistant performs a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions and assists university physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and the Center's nursing staff in providing health care and health information to 3,000 university students. The position is 10 months, normally August – May and works 37.5 hours per week.
Specifically, the Medical Office Assistant is responsible for the clinic's patient flow, collecting medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures. In addition, the Medical Office Assistant performs simple laboratory procedures, counsels and educates students in preventive and self-care, and performs other administrative and medical procedures of a routine nature, as determined by established clinical protocol, policies, and procedures. The MOA shares rotating weekend reception coverage for the front-office.
At least one-year clinical experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
Previous experience working with a diverse patient population within a fast-paced clinical setting and experience with EMR software systems; Previous experience working with adolescents and/or college-aged students.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for more than six (6) hours per day. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
