Job Summary/Basic Function: Job Summary: The Assistant Director for Student Conduct & Residence Life is a 12-month live-in position, which reports to Director of Housing & Residence Life and serves as a member of the Dean of Students office in regard to student conduct.
The position creates a comprehensive residential experience to residents of a 500-bed residence hall on the campus of Lamar University and supports the student conduct processes for the university.
POSITIONDESCRIPTION: *Student Conduct: Facilitates the reporting of student conduct complaints by individuals, departments, and organizations, conducts preliminary investigations into student conduct as appropriate by interviewing students and other witnesses, and organize conduct meetings to resolve student conduct cases.
Ensures that student conduct hearings are effectively administered by supervising the preparation of all notifications and documentation, scheduling conduct meetings and hearings, notifying all participants, and reviewing all physical and/or documentary information submitted.
Ensures that student conduct is administered in a fair, impartial, non-adversarial, restorative, and educational manner through the recruitment and training of conduct officers and hearing board committed to this philosophy.
Adjudicates individual student cases via administrative meetings and administrative reviews or refers to other conflict resolution processes as appropriate.
Will follow up with students on the completion of sanctions in a timely manner.
Assist in coordinating record keeping for all conduct files within the University, utilizing Maxient. Assist in the preparation of conduct summary reports at the end of each semester for the annual report.
In concert with AVPDOS, prepare and maintain the Dean of Students website as an informational tool to educate students regarding the process of Student Conduct.
*Residence Life: Train, supervise, and motivate a staff of 6 to 8 Resident Assistants (RAs) and a staff of Desk Assistants (DAs).
Coordinate monthly all-staff in-services in conjunction with other professional staff, Empower RA staff to resolve roommate conflicts, serving as a resource in the establishment of roommate contract agreements to mediate conflict.
Implement and provide support and guidance of the programming model put forth by the Office of Housing & Residence Life.
Maintain an accurate roster of residents that is up-to-date at all times, coordinating occupancy verification's monthly.
Serve in a rotational on-call system as a member of Housing & Residence Life for emergency situations that arise after-hours, weekends, including some holidays.
Coordinate opening/closing/room changes and monthly health and wellness checks.
Able to Input work orders into a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for facilities issues in the residence hall. Will maintain open lines of communication with Facilities Management and conduct fire drills in conjunction with Risk Management.
*New Student Orientation: Assist the Director of New Student & Leadership Programs with the administration of the new student orientation program (April - July) concurrently with residence life responsibilities during the time period.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in Higher Education, counseling or student affairs with 2+ years of experience in student conduct and residence life. The successful candidate will have: -Exhibit leadership abilities -Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment -Able to relate to and interact with college students -Experience working with students on a college campus -Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing -Have developed writing skills and be able to clearly and concisely convey thoughts in written format. -Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. -Committed to inclusion and demonstrated ability to work with diverse population. -Must meet the physical requirements of the position, which will include the ability to move between and within the residence hall community and possible lifting of up to 40 lbs.
