Provides interpreting and/or transliterating services for Deaf consumers and hearing consumers in the post secondary educational environment. This environment includes classrooms, field site visits, tutoring sessions, club meetings, extracurricular activities, and other campus events. The interpreter facilitates communication through use of sign language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and knowledge about visual accessibility. Interpreters will prepare for each assignment as directed by the Coordinator for Deaf and Hard of Hearing services.
Skill Level III or above in Interpreting or Transliterating as awarded by the Virginia Quality Assurance Screening through The Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Graduation from Interpreter Training Program.
Certificate of Interpretation (CI),or Certificate of Transliteration (CT), or National Interpreting Certification as awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
