The Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement is a professional who knows and understands the culture, nature and purpose of development/advancement activities as they apply to a University environment. The successful candidate for this position will be a highly motivated individual with a record of professional success, demonstrated integrity and compelling leadership skills. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituencies, willingness to travel, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to mobilize and maximize constituent alumni support.
As Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, this person is responsible for:
Providing leadership and effective supervision of the staff members in areas of major gifts, school/program-based giving, and campaign planning/execution.
Working with the assigned staff members to develop annual goals, track monthly and quarterly progress, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
Build strong relations among the academic and administrative leadership, the faculty and external constituents, including donors, alumni and community leaders, with the goal of increasing the visibility of the University for potential donors.
In consultation with the leadership in each unit, maintain a list of priorities for funding of each unit within the University.
Working in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor to manage, motivate, and steward Foundation board members to aid in meeting fundraising and campaign goals. Achieve a significant increase in fundraising productivity for the institution at large.
Maintaining a portfolio of major giving prospective donors.
Maintain a personal portfolio of major donors to cultivate and solicit for major donations. Maintain an appropriate stewardship program for those donors.
Actively engage prospects, donors, and volunteers through moves management towards securing funding for the university.
Meet moves management monthly/annual goals as agreed upon with the Vice Chancellor.
Responsibility for implementation and management of important aspects of campaign operations.
Lead staff in an aggressive program of donor identification and qualifications, in order to build a substantial pool of prospective donors. Ensuring that services within assigned areas are being provided across all university sectors and campuses.
Maintain a positive and appropriate relationship with the ECU Foundation Board of Directors.
Working with directors of assigned areas to develop annual budgets and monitoring expenses to ensure departments stay within budgeted guidelines.
Encouraging and coordinating professional development opportunities for assigned staff. Serving as a member of the Vice Chancellor's leadership team.
Ensure all data is made available to meet the data reporting needs of the ECU Foundation and the needs of the VC of Advancement.
Maintaining current knowledge of best practices within the assigned development areas.
Collaborating with leaders of other advancement areas to achieve teamwork-oriented atmosphere.
Maintain a positive and appropriate relationship with the ECU Foundation, M&HS Foundation, Alumni Association, Pirate Club and all ECU communities.
Must be a highly motivated individual with a record of professional success, demonstrated integrity and compelling leadership skills that are collaborative and inclusive.
Willingness to travel.
Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and a clear set of priorities with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Specific qualifications include:
A Master's degree plus 5 years of front line fundraising experience or a Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of frontline fundraising experience.
Experience in leading, managing, and supervising a team of advancement professionals who are successful fundraisers.
Experience in leading, supporting, and working with the board of directors of a successful non-profit organization.
Experience in initiating high-level gift and grant discussions with corporate, foundation and individual donor prospects
Experience in recruiting, motivating, and supporting volunteers to build and expand the development network.
A progressively improving record of successes as an effective leader with expertise in personnel management, strategic planning, program implementation and program accountability.
